The engagement
How it happened:
Adde told me that he had to lend
me for the evening of 28th May and that I would go to town and buy a new dress
and learning to tie a tie knot until then. I tried of course to find out
what we were to do but could not. So I took my sister out on the
town and found a purple dress that suited my pregnant belly.
On the 28th I came home from
work and found a red rose and a note on the kitchen table with instructions to
rest a bit and then get ready to 18.00 and that further instructions would come
later. How easy was it to rest then?
At 17.30 Adde rang and said that
the car key to his parents’ car was on the table and that I would go to it and
find new directives. On the passenger seat was
another red rose and a note saying that I should drive to our summer home on
Sturkö and that he was waiting for me there.
With tingling in my stomach and
a smile, I drove to the summer house where he met me, dressed in a suit and
everything. I was not to look into the plot,
and would go directly into the house where he had prepared fondue and a large
vase with a bunch of red roses on the table.
I did not notice that Adde was
so nervous that he later told me that he was, but asked several times what we
did in the summer house and what would happen.
After dinner Adde took me into
the garden where he had prepared the flowers under the small hill, put out
solar lanterns, torches and painted the little windmill in white. In addition, he had squared the
letters A & C and sat on the grinder. Everything
was so romantic.
I was much taken and only
understood what happened when Adde went down on his knees and asked me to marry
him. Once I got what he was saying, I
was overjoyed and said YES!
In history belongs also that
Adde had phoned my mum and my dad and asked for permission to ask me to marry
him. He had not been able to do it
better in any other way.
